You can also swap out the 3.5mm cable for a premium USB-C version to connect them to stationary Hi-Fi systems and mobile Hi-Res players. They also come with dual mics built in that worked well in our tests with FaceTime, Skype and Microsoft Teams calls.

The Soundcore app comes with a broad range of EQ presets that can be saved and adjusted to listen to podcasts or music in the style that you like. The Soundcore app is simple to use and makes these headphones stand out.

The Q30's 40mm speaker effectively block almost all ambient sound when ANC is turned on. This results in a very pleasant listening experience. The Q30's sound quality is natural, but a little on treble. Some might find the bass response lacking (we have had better results using the Bass Booster EQ). But, you can fix this by using the Soundcore app, since there's an equalizer with 8 bands to help you tinker.

The headphones come with a power button and pairing button on the left ear cup as well as a USB-C port for charging. The right earcup is equipped with buttons for play/pause, volume up/down and volume up/down. By double-clicking these controls, you can skip tracks or replay the previous one. They also come with an option to speak to them which allows you to ask to change the mode or set an alarm. You can also cover the right earcup with your fingers to enable ambient modes to allow you to hear everything around you without removing the headphones.

The battery life on these headphones is excellent, too. In our tests with ANC enabled, the Q30 was able to last for nearly an hour longer than the other headphones. This allows you to take advantage of the long flight, or a busy day at work. They can be easily recharged by using the USB-C cable that comes with them and you'll get an alert when they're getting empty.

Focal Bathys Wireless

Focal's Bathys Wireless are a set of premium over-ear headphones that offer both active noise cancellation as well as bluetooth headphones uk playback. They are designed to be premium, high-end headphones that can be used at home or on the move. They're more expensive than other similar headphones but their superior sound quality is the main selling feature.

The Focal Bathys are packaged in a small, slim and attractive white fabric-finished retail box that includes everything you'll need in. The package also includes a fold-flat carrying case for the headphones and a USB-C cable to USB C cable, 1.2mmSE cable and an audio converter.

They're powered by a respectable 600mAh battery that will get you through a full day of listening to music and include an audio input that can be wired for use. Wirelessly, they are paired via Bluetooth. You can control their functions via an app (now called Focal and Naim in the same way as English Naim's network-aware products) or the dedicated button located on the left earcup which scrolls through ANC profiles like'silent','soft transparent,' and 'full.

The app lets you adjust various settings, such as the brightness of the LEDs as well as the EQ presets (including a'music' profile that sounds more neutral and brighter than the other profiles) and the battery life. It also lets you to select the ANC mode and the level as well as setting an 'acoustic' environment which adjusts the sensitivity of your music to simulate what it will sound like if it were placed in a space with different soundproofing.

The Focal Bathys feature bass-rich, rich sound profiles that adds more energy, impact and warmth to your favourite tracks. This means that instruments and vocals can sound muted, while details like cymbals might be less noticeable than on other headphones. They're also not as effective in active noise cancellation contrasted with other headphones that have more advanced technology, like the Sony WH-1000XM5 or Apple AirPods Max.

Sony WH-1000XM5

Sony headphones are known for their quality and the WH1000XM5 headphones are no exception. It is at the top of the'mainstream' over ear headphone market and also falls within the 'luxury' lifestyle market in which brands like Apple, Montblanc, Bang & Olufsen and Montblanc are located. This means that the XM5s are expensive in price tag but, should you be able to afford it, there are a few more superior wireless over-ear headphones on the market.

The XM5s come with a variety of features that make life easier for the listener, and also automate tasks that they'd otherwise need to perform manually. Sony's DSEE Extreme engine (which upscales compressed music to close to high-res) is included and also support for Bluetooth's LDAC technology. This allows high-quality audio to be streamed with bitrates that are higher than Bluetooth. There's even a built-in microphone to allow making calls without hands.

The XM5 headphones aren't different from the previous generation WH headphones in terms of noise cancellation. They're among the best at cutting down on the constant drones that are heard in train and underground carriages. The XM5s are also excellent in separating the listener from the hum of busy airports and streets.

Sound quality is also excellent. The XM5s aren't quite as detailed in the low frequencies as the XM4, but there's a greater sense of clarity and transparency as well. For instance the bass on Rage Against the Machine's Bullet in the Head flexes the Sonys muscles with real power and definition, while not sagging the other elements. In the same way, Massive Attack's grooving Angel showcases the XM5's ability to produce accurate and precise bass notes.

Battery life is excellent and can last up to 30 hours listening time when ANC is active and up to 40 hours when it's off. That's more than enough to last for a weekend getaway or a long period of use.

The XM5s do not come with water resistant or dust resistant. Sony actually advises against sweating in them or taking them out in the rain. This may not be a problem for some people, but it might cause a problem for anyone considering the XM5s who spend a lot of their time in the gym or lives in a city with rain.

Apple AirPods Max

Apple AirPods Max is a pair of wireless headphones over-ear that feature bluetooth Headfones technology and noise cancellation. Apple created dynamic drivers that measure 40mm with a neutral sound profile that emphasizes mids and highs without going too loud. They are great for movies and music. They also offer superior fidelity when compared to other headphones.

The headphones are light and feel comfortable on the head. The ear cups are constructed of memory foam and covered with woven fabric, fit comfortably over the ear and do not place pressure on the sides or forehead. The ear cups can tilt and rotate to accommodate various head shapes. The spring-loaded hinges feature a firm but not overly strong clamping force, which ensures that the earcups remain in place throughout listening sessions.

A small button at the top of the right earcup lets you toggle noise cancelling modes. It also has an earphone-style jog dial with a push button similar to the digital crown on the Apple Watch. You can turn it to control the volume, and press it once three, twice, or even three times to playback the controls. Siri is activated by pressing and holding the button. The buttons are simple to use and well-placed however I would have liked to have a power button that would turn off the headphones when they are not in use. The headphones go into standby mode when removed from your ears or when they are put in their case. They return to life when you put them on your head.

Another great feature is spatial audio, which makes use of the gyroscopes and accelerometers in the AirPods Max and your iPhone or iPad to figure out where you're moving, then repositions the sound to create the illusion that they're coming from these locations. This creates a cinema-like experience for films and videos that were recorded in 5.1, 7.1 or Dolby Atmos. Only iOS devices are able to listen to the spatial audio.

The AirPods Max are a decent pair of headphones, but I'd feel slightly smug about walking into an Apple Store and spending $549 on the headphones if I knew they'd be outdone in a year by the second-generation model. The AirPods Pro have more advanced features and a better battery life, making it hard to justify the extra cost for the majority of people.
