However, it is crucial to make sure that you have at the very least two keys that work for your vehicle. It can be expensive to replace a key if you lose it.

First, you'll need to prepare the new key. Before you begin, disable the anti-theft feature by placing blocks under your rear wheels, and then releasing your handbrake. Put the key into the ignition, and then turn it to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories but will not start the engine. Repeat this process 5 times, and then keep the key on the "on" position.

You'll need to purchase an additional case for your key fob. These are available at most auto parts stores and are usually quite affordable. Based on the model, you could even buy them without electronics.

To open the case simply push the screwdriver with a flathead into the slot in the middle. When you've split the case, you will be able to access all the internal electronics. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry out the electronic components.
