The buttons are easy to use and are well-placed, but I would have liked to have an option to power off or turn off the headphones when they are not in use. The headphones go into standby when they are removed from your ears or when they are put in their case. They only return to life when you place them over your head.

Another feature that is quite cool is spatial audio, which uses the accelerometers and gyroscopes in the AirPods Max and your iPhone or iPad to figure out the direction you're going, and then repositions sound to create the illusion that they're coming from those locations. The AirPods Max is a decent pair, but I would feel a little ripped off if I spent $549 in an Apple Store knowing that the second-generation model would be better in the next year. AirPods Pro are more expensive, but they have more battery life and are equipped with the latest features.
