Heyer subtly emphasized the limitations of women during this era. Leonie is not keen on trading in her breeches or riding side-saddle in exchange for layers of skirts, petticoats, and dresses. She also doesn't want to ride on the side saddle and shoots villains (despite it being a hazardous job). Avon is initially uncomfortable with her rebellious behaviour, but he soon comes to admire her.

It was a little difficult to keep track at initially, since Heyer calls the Duke by various names in the first few pages. Once you get it figured out the book becomes more comprehensible. This book was fantastic and I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed, whether you're a Georgette Heyer fan or you just like a good romance!
