Instead, he used insinuation and storytelling.

Heyer subtly emphasized the limitations women face in this era. Leonie is not a fan of trading in her breeches or riding side-saddle to wear layers of skirts, petticoats, and dresses. She also isn't willing to ride on the side saddle and shoots enemies (despite it being a hazardous job). Avon is initially a little uncomfortable with her rebellious behaviour however, he quickly comes to love her.

I did find it difficult to remember who was who at the beginning, as Heyer refers to the Duke using a variety of different names in the initial pages. Once you figure it out, the book becomes much more comprehensible. This is a great book and I strongly recommend it! If you're a fan Georgette Heyer or simply enjoy an enjoyable romance, I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
