The WH-1000XM5 has the same headband and earcups to the XM4 however it is lighter and more comfortable. They are comfortable to wear and are suitable for extended periods. Sony is committed to incorporating intelligent features into its products, and the WH1000XM5 is no different. The active noise cancellation is one of the best I've heard and they include a whole range of smart functions that enhance the overall listening experience. They also come with Sony's DSEE Extreme engine which upscales compressed music to near hi-res quality. They're compatible with Sony's LDAC technology which streams higher-bitrate music via Bluetooth.

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones that are the PX7 S2 have always been on top lists of wireless bt Headphones headsets since the launch of the first generation PX7, in 2015. They are in the same category as Sony WH1000XM5 or Bose's QuietComfort. The latest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the original headphones to a new level, with improved ANC performance and a refreshed design.

In the earcups, the 40mm bio cellulose drivers are bent to point straight at your eardrums, delivering an audio experience that's more intimate than many other closed-back bluethooth headphones. It's a bold claim, but one that the PX7 S2 is able to deliver on. Vocals are clear and clear and bass is rich and rumbly when it needs to be.

The PX7 S2 is also very excellent at making calls. It has a crisp, clear sound that does not drown out your voice. They also come with a quick charge that can get you back to full power in less than two hours, and they're compatible with hi-res audio thanks to an aptX adaptive Bluetooth codec that enables the playback of 24-bit music.

For most listeners, though the most important change is the improved noise cancellation and audio quality. In our tests, the PX7 S2 eliminated nearly all of our simulated cabin noise with remarkable effectiveness, and they excelled when we performed Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus from his Grosse Messe, demonstrating excellent insight into the shifting dynamics between the solo voice, the wind trio and orchestral accompaniment.

For audiophiles who appreciate high fidelity and are looking for an exceptional wireless noise-canceling headset, the Focal Bathys are tough to beat. They're the French audio company's first-ever ANC headphones to use Bluetooth and they offer incredible sound in both Bluetooth mode and when connected to a device via USB for hi-fi audio at up to 24-bit/192kHz (the headphone is also capable of blocking external sound through its closed ear cups).

The Bathys are stunning with their black glossy finish and swooping curves like Focal's premium open back Elear and closed-back Celestee headphones. They also come with premium materials such as aluminum and magnesium for solid construction that feels solid, comfortable and worth the price.

In Bluetooth mode in Bluetooth mode, the Bathys deliver a crisp and vibrant sound that easily surpasses similarly priced consumer ANC options such as the Sony XM5/5 or Bose QC45. They can be pushed even further by using direct DAC audio mode which makes them an excellent choice for serious hi-fi enthusiasts.

The Focal &Naim app allows users to adjust the headphone's playback controls and Bluetooth pairing preferences. The app allows users to choose between soft and silent intensities for ANC. Users can also adjust the brightness of the LEDs that are on the ear cups of the headphones, and tweak EQ settings. The app isn't complete however it provides enough functionality to warrant the cost of downloading.

The only significant flaw is that the active noise cancellation doesn't match the quality of the competitors. The headphone does not eliminate all background noise as effectively as the top-rated XM5 and AirPods Max. Its treble accuracy is also lacking with a muffled mid-to-high range that takes away from the instruments and vocals.

The Focal Bathys aren't the most portable headphones. Their earcups don't fold down and weigh a bit heavier than the competition, meaning that they're not suitable for traveling. They're best suited to an environment at home where they can be used for extended listening sessions or as an audio reference headphone for engineering purposes. Despite their size and bulk, the Bathys are extremely comfortable to wear for extended periods of time.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WHCH720N are an excellent pair of wireless over ear headphones for the price. The noise-cancelling technology is great and helps to cut down the background noise. They are perfect for commuters and travelers. They also have a nice design that reflects premium quality, thanks to their sturdy construction and appealing matte finish.

They look similar to Sony's 1000X and XB910N earphone models. They feature a slim headband, with the standard earcup hinges and a sturdy plastic construction. They are light and comfortable, however they feel a bit too compressed to my liking. In the box, they have an USB-C port to charge as well as an 3.5mm connector, and a decent length cable. They support multipoint Bluetooth which means that you can connect two devices at the same time if you want.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid noise cancelling technology did well in reducing background noise, with just a couple of noticeable blips when walking through Waterloo station and London Victoria. They weren't magic sound-silencers that blocked out every sound however, and they struggled with lower frequency sounds like the rumbling engine noises of trains and buses.

The CH720N's Bluetooth connection worked smoothly and displayed a minimal harmonic distortion. I tried a range of different genres and found they could handle the intricate interplay between instruments quite well. It did a great job of taming bass in rock tracks and focusing the mix.

I like the fact that you can adjust the Sony Headphones Connect app to tailor the CH720N's ANC and multipoint connectivity settings to your preference and also add a range of audio presets. You can also enable DSEE through the app, which improves the quality of sound and boosts compression of audio files.

The WH-CH720N is an excellent value for PS130. It's not equipped with many of Sony's top features (such as Speak-to-Chat and Fast Attention) however, it does come with many amazing features. It comes with 360 Reality Audio and a variety of smart controls in addition to the DSEE upscaling feature. The only thing missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support which I believe would have been a welcome inclusion.
