What to Do With Your Rep Kit

Repair Patches

If you've got a gap or two in your gears, consider adding some adhesive patches to your rep kit. These patches are made of an ultra-high-performance adhesive that is applied to a durable polyurethane backing that allows a tear to recover under pressure. Available in clear or color options they offer a long-lasting protection against abrasions, moisture, saltwater, sunlight and temperature extremes.

If your kit isn't stocked with any of the above products, consider adding a bag of waterproof Aquaseal wader repair sealant. This water-tight adhesive can be bonded to fabrics and metals to create permanent repair. This is great for repairing drysuits and can also be utilized in the field. Give the sealant at least 12 hours to set before you can use your repaired equipment.

The essential field fabric kit for tents, packs and rainwear made from silicone-impregnated nylon. The kit comes with one Clean Tape patch and a sil-nylon repair sample along with a 1/4-ounce tube of Gore-Tex Sil-Fix repair adhesive and sealant, as well as a brush. To apply the patch, place it on a smooth, clean surface of damaged area with at least 1/2 inch overlap. Remove the release paper from the patch surface and rub the adhesive with moderate pressure (adhesive side down).

Utilize the tube-scuffer to roughen the surface. This will help the glue stick. Spread a thin layer of glue on the patch. Cover an area that is at a minimum big as the patch. Take a few moments for the glue to harden before pressing the patch down and holding it securely in the desired position.
